Step 10: GET HELP WHEN YOU NEED IT. Whenever you have an issue, problem or just a question don’t be afraid to seek help. No matter how large or small it may seem to you, the staff at the school is always there to help you. Most problems can be resolved by talking to the right person (school secretary, teacher, counselor, principal). Never allow a problem to become so big or overwhelming that you cannot pay attention in class or concentrate either at school or at home. Student issues range from grades to alcohol, drugs, pregnancy, relationships, eating disorders, harassment at school, depression, problems at home. Remember you are not alone.
**A TIP FOR PARENTS: You should always show interest in your child’s academic performance, discuss his/her classes and help set goals. Listen to them, they have a lot to say and encourage their involvement in school activities. Be available to help with homework or just to help get organized for the next day, and try not to slack off. Monitor your child’s’ activities such as internet, texting, playing and talking on the phone. Know your child’s moods and recognize when there is a change. Keep your child in school everyday.
